Going to ICE 2014? You could win your ICE registration fee! Value up to $1,800 to attend the 2014 ASTD International Conference and Exposition in Washington, DC on May 5-7, 2014.

All ASTD Golden Gate members in good standing are eligible to apply. Winner will be announced at noon on Monday, March 31st.


You must be a member in good standing with the ASTD Golden Gate Chapter at time of entry.

  • Your entry must be received by midnight (PT) on Sunday, March 23rd.
  • Include in your entry your name, email address, telephone number, and the four documents listed in the Submission Criteria section. Send your entry to with subject 2014 ICE Competition.
  • The winner will be announced at noon on Monday, March 31st.

Your entry must include four documents, described below,submitted in pdf format. Documents 1 and 2 utilize ICE materials. Use the links in the process descriptions to access the online materials. Each of the four criteria below has a scoring value of up to 25 points.
1. ICE
• Access the scheduler
• Login and complete your
profile and build your schedule.
• Save or print a copy of your
completed schedule.
• Summit a pdf format of your
completed schedule.

Action Log
• Review the list of education
programs listed in ASTD
• Access the Transfer Action Log
• Complete the following sections:
  • Your three primary learning goals for ICE overall, and
  • Up to three each of the links, people & books you are interested in learning more about while at ICE
• Submit a PDF form or scanned copy of your Action Log.
3. Purpose
for Attending

• Describe the purpose for the events and exhibitors you selected from the Scheduler.
• You can use any format you like and there’s no minimum or maximum length.
• Submit in PDF format.

4. Proposed
for Sharing
• Describe and give examples of the methods and strategies you plan to use to share your ICE learnings with the Golden Gate Chapter members in San Francisco, the North Bay and South Bay Geographic Interest Groups (GIGs).
• You can use any format you
like and there’s no minimum or maximum length.
• Submit in PDF format.


Each entry will be evaluated using a 0-100 point scale in ½ point increments on the four Submission Criteria defined above. In the event of a tie, all tied entries will placed in a drawing for selecting a winner and alternate.

Each submission will be evaluated as follows:
  • Submission completeness, includes all four criteria documents.
  • Thoughtfulness in planning to attend ICE as indicated by the use of the conference scheduler (criteria 1), the learning transfer action plan (criteria 2) and a written description (criteria 3) on why those particular choices were made.
  • Creativity and practicality in the methods and strategies proposed to share your learnings at ICE with the ASTDGolden Gate Chapter membership (criteria 4). For example: conduct a one hour webinar overview of the two educational sessions I found most valuable and provide descriptive handouts.
  • A balance in reasons for participation in selected ICE events: reinforcing your own current strengths, developing your own new skills, and gathering information you believe would benefit other members of the Golden Gate Chapter even if it is not an interest of yours.
  • Comprehensively covers the 10 ASTD professional competencies.
  • Improves your understanding of the ASTD Communities of Practice and their resources for professional development.
  • Strategically networking.
  • Awareness that it is important to take care of yourself during the conference through pacing and having some fun!


A panel of three ASTD Golden Gate Board members will select one entry to receive the prize. Each of the four documents submitted is worth 25 points for a total of 100 points. Up to 10 bonus points may be awarded if information is submitted supporting the following:

  • 5 points if you’ve attended three ASTD Golden Gate Chapter events since January 2013.
  • 5 points if you are a National ASTD Member in good standing.


  • Winner’s registration fee for ICE will be paid by Golden Gate Chapter, up to $1,800. Winner will pay all other expenses connected with attending ICE.
  • In the event the winner has already registered, the
  • registration fee (up to $1,800.00) will be reimbursed by The Chapter.
  • The registration is non-transferable by the winner. If the winner is unable to use the ICE registration, he/she must inform the Board by April 15, 2014. An alternate winner will be selected by The Chapter.
  • Winner will share what he/she gained by participating at ICE with the Golden Gate Chapter, as described in their entry submission, by November 15, 2014.
