Jane Howard spent the past 12 years as Chief People Officer at Joie de Vivre Hospitality. During her tenure JdV grew from 300 to 3000 employees and $250M in sales and became the second largest boutique hotel company in the country, experiencing employee turnover 1/3 to ½ of industry averages. JdV was in the top ten on the Business Times Best Places to Work list for 6 years in a row and was named number one in customer satisfaction for Upper Upscale hotels in the Market Metrix Hospitality Index. Working closely with former CEO and author Chip Conley, Jane iteratively created a culture that adapted and performed under all sorts of economic circumstances, standing the test of time. 

Prior to JdV, Jane worked at the VP level at Kimpton Group in Sales and Real Estate Development during a time when the company tripled in size. Jane and business partner Candra Canning founded their consultancy, Culture Effect, in January 2012 to help
organizations leverage corporate culture for greater performance and profit. Jane has an undergraduate degree in Journalism from San Diego State University and a Masters in Business (Organizational Development) from JFK University. She is certified to deliver the Myers Briggs Type Indicator.

Candra Canning worked in marketing and branding leadership roles for 15 years including at Highway One, a division of D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles focusing on Fortune 500 clients such as Apple, Levi Strauss, Coca-Cola, Visa, Hewlett Packard and as Director of Client Services at Netcentives. She served in executive marketing roles in hospitality at Tahoe Mountain Resorts and Mount Washington Resort. Candra transitioned into culture work after realizing that if the culture isn’t right inside an organization, it doesn’t matter what is said in the marketing message. She is a graduate of UC Berkeley, a certified leadership coach and master facilitator. What defines Candra is the belief that we can all create the lives we want through conscious design and aligned action. Practicing what she preaches, Candra’s approach to lifelong learning has taken her across the globe often in pursuit of athletic adventure. Her most recent trip involved facilitating a group expedition in Bhutan where Gross National Happiness is measured. Bringing energy and positivism into her work, Candra teaches individuals and corporate teams how to design the life they want and bring their best to work.
