The coaching profession has evolved dramatically over the last decade.  We have seen a dynamic shift from coaching only C-suite executives to coaching for all levels of an organization. There are a variety of different types of coaches: life coaches, career coaches, presentation skills coaches, fitness coaches, and more recently internal coaches in a company.

If you’re interested in transitioning to the coaching field, this session will be particularly helpful. Here are some of the questions we’ll explore with our panel of local coaches.
  • How did you transition to become a coach?
  • How do companies use coaching today?
  • Where is the coaching profession headed?
  • What certification do you recommend?
  • What are the different types of coaching?
  • What lessons have you learned from starting your own coaching business?

Deborah Bellen is the co-founder of Coaching Collaborative with a mission to accelerate success and fulfillment for her clients. She has a long-standing commitment to supporting organizations and their employees to grow and thrive through one-on- one coaching and program delivery for executives, directors and managers.

In her role as COO, Deborah used her coaching skills with key staff. She discovered that coaching your own staff needed a different approach. The relationship with a client has very different characteristics than a relationship with an internal employee. Deborah is a co-author of The Championship Team Program which has been delivered to more than 100 companies worldwide.

Janice Drescher is the owner of Intentional Leaders, has over 25 years’ experience as an executive leadership coach and trainer, empowering her clients to be authentic leaders who live their passion. Janice shows her clients how to build effective and profitable organizations that empower managers to achieve results through their teams.

As part of her business, she offers individual executive coaching with horses and a unique leadership and team building retreat with horses resulting in powerful insights for healthy work relationships, collaboration and creative problem-solving.

Prior to founding her company in 1999, Janice spent 13 years coaching business owners at Michael Gerber’s E-Myth organization. As VP Consulting and Training, she played a key role in the development and rollout of the program that licensed certified E-Myth consultants around the world.

Janice has two horses, Ginger Snap and Queenie. She enjoys spending time playing at liberty with her in the magical dance that’s possible when a horse engages with you of their own free will, without equipment or force. Janice has a BA from Simmons College in Spanish, an MAT from Wesleyan University in Spanish/Education, an ED.S from Stanford University in Curriculum and is a Certified Equine Interaction Professional (CEIP).

Jen Cody is an executive & personal coach, group facilitator, and certified NLP Master Practitioner. She passionately assists her clients on their path to a more conscious life, fully stepping into being whole. Many clients comment that Jen’s work is so transformative words simply don’t do it justice.

Jen’s corporate executive & private practice experience spans over 18 years of building high performing teams & individuals. Infinitely willing to meet the client wherever they are on the journey, Jen is confident and authentic in style. She leads through “extreme conflict” with clarity & insight which assists in developing a strong culture to support company values, navigating through challenging mergers/acquisitions and communicating through rapid company growth. Guided by her strong intuition and deep knowledge of the human experience, Jen gets to the core of what “holds the client back” from living the life they want. One of her most gratifying discoveries working with clients is their enjoyment of the work and the continued growth. Jen thrives on being present to those special “ah ha” moments when the clients connection to themselves and life is forever changed.

Karen Mathre is currently leading Medtronic’s Coaching Center of Expertise in Global Learning and Leadership Development. She joined Medtronic in 2006 and, being a HR Business Partner as well, built the technical/functional curriculums as well as designed and delivered the global high potential programs.

Her interest in Leadership Development started when she was a Commercial Banker for WestAmerica Bank in Northern, CA. In that role she noticed that she could have two clients in the same industry and the same market and one was succeeding and the other struggling. She became curious and wanted to know what differentiated those too companies. She discovered that the Leadership Effectiveness of the CEO and the Executive Team had a big impact on both the top and bottom line. Wanting to learn more Karen got a degree in Organization Development/Psychology from Sonoma State and started a Coaching and Consulting firm that focused on Leadership & Organization Development, Strategic & Business Planning and large scale Community Engagement events. What she discovered was that the best leaders are true to themselves, their values, their vision and their people. In short, they are authentic. They also strive to ensure those who around them can do the same. This blend of business and people acumen led to many years of success with clients including Arthur Andersen, LLP; Charles Schwab & Co, Inc.; Grant Thornton, LLP; Medtronic, Inc.; Tahoe Donner Home Owner Association and the Super Bowl Host Committee in Tempe, AZ.

Karen currently lives and works in Sonoma, CA with husband and the furniture of two college-age daughters. She enjoys singing, cooking with her husband, and spending time with friends and family.
