Is there a way to manage learning experiences that happen in the workplace, outside of a formal training environment? There is, and it's called the Experience API (xAPI), also known as the “Tin Can” API. This evolving eLearning standard goes beyond the limits of today’s LMS’s and allows organizations to track experiences across a learning ecosystem.

In this knowledge-building session, Gary Heganbart will:
  • Introduce us to the xAPI
  • Explain its place in the learning ecosystem
  • Show practical applications through a real-world example
  • Share take-aways from DevLearn 2014 Conference & Expo
This event will benefit members who:
  • Evaluate purchasing eLearning and LMS's for their organization
  • Design eLearning and want to know how their eLearning will fit into future trends like xAPI
  • Create performance-based learning experiences

PRESENTER:
Gary Hegenbart is an Instructional Designer at Cyan, Inc. in Petaluma. Previously as Manager of Global Training and Certification at Calix, Gary created an external customer certification program. Customers use a variety of pre-tests, virtual classes, eLearning, and online resources to prepare for certification on Calix's telecom products.

From elearning development tools, to collaboration tools like Webex or GotoMeeting, to capturing training metrics, Gary has a broad point of view on the field of learning technology. Last year, Gary presented here at North Bay sharing his experience developing and managing customer training in the face-paced telecommunications industry.
