Using case studies, discussion, and activities, experience three different approaches to program evaluation that have been applied to measure learning and return on investment in real world settings.

How do we know that our training interventions impact learners and, furthermore, how do we know that the money and time spent developing and delivering training actually impacts the business’ bottom line? How can we collect and share hard data when our training is “soft?

Using case studies, discussion, and relevant activities, Write It Well President and ASTD Golden Gate Chapter colleague, Natasha Terk, will offer three different approaches to program evaluation that her writing skills training firm has designed and delivered in order to measure learning and return on investment.

During the session, participants will:

  • Share their own experiences measuring learning and return on investment
  • Participate in a testing simulation and debrief it
  • Look at three mini case studies that Write It Well has developed
  • Discuss the ways we can collect data and share data
  • Discuss the application to our work

Natasha Terk is a recognized expert on business communication in the workplace and the author of seven books in the Write It Well Series on Business Communication. She leads the firm’s business operations and strategy in the US and Asia. Her focus on creating job-relevant communication tools, customization, efficiency, and customer service has grown Write It Well by 300 percent.

Natasha has worked as an Organization Development Consultant and Trainer for 15 years leading onsite and online training, team building, leadership development, strategic planning, and train-the-trainer processes with Fortune 500 companies, small and mid-sized businesses, and with organizations in the nonprofit and public sectors. Her recent focus is on demonstrating the impact of “soft skills” training on the business’ bottom line through the effective application of program evaluation. Natasha has served as program officer at the Packard Foundation, worked as a management consultant with La Piana Consulting, and taught Business Writing at the University of California, Berkeley. Natasha holds a bachelor’s degree from Colorado College; master’s degrees from the University of San Francisco and the University of Manchester, UK; and certifications in facilitation and program evaluation. She has recently returned to the Bay Area after living in Singapore for three years with her husband and two children

While there is no charge for members, registering will help us plan for numbers. Guests of members may attend free one time to try out our chapter.  Returning guests must register as a non member at the appropriate fee.
