Are you looking for creative ways to reach others across both time and space? Would you like to experience a fully functioning virtual world designed with specific performance goals in mind?

If you answered yes to either or both of these questions this event is for you! Virtual worlds, like all emerging technologies, have been filled with potential and promises that many who need to get performance improvement results have been waiting to experience. Well the wait is over!

Join your ASTD Golden Gate Chapter colleagues, Bruce Gross and Carla Kincaid-Yoshikawa as they guide you through a virtual world that they built and use NOW for practical, real time training and performance improvement purpose Bruce will facilitate this event from San Jose while Carla co-facilitates remotely.

By meeting in the virtual world that they use regularly for team activities, simulations and interactive discussions you will be able to experience with them the existing capabilities they have designed into their 3D environment.

Following your guided experience in their 3D environment:
  • You will determine the level of engagement you experienced and find possible
  • You will determine the level of flexibility you see capable in this 3D environment
  • They will review the current applications of their environment
  • They will review the business performance improvement outcomes targeted
  • They will give an overview of the tools and skills needed to take the first steps in building your own environment, including the 3D Special Interest Group they manage through ASTD Golden Gate

Anyone who wants to explore ways to make virtual training work better as part of their professional development ecosystem.

Note: you do not need any personal electronic device to experience the virtual world. Bruce and Carla will guide the experience for the group.

Bruce Gross has been working at WORLDPAC in the HR department since July 2001. He joined the WORLDPAC University team in March of 2008, continuing his monthly training sessions while expanding his responsibilities to include administering WORLDPAC's Learning Management System (LMS), generating compliance reporting, and assisting with the organization and facilitation of the Business Leadership Program (BLP) and Advanced Leadership Program (ALP) and created the Emerging Leadership Program (ELP).

In 2012 Bruce completed the Certificate in Virtual Words from the University of Washington. Over the past 3 years he has been building and using 3D environments as part of WORLDPAC’s training delivery technologies. He completed the Leadership Program Pilot Test with 12 Teammates and it was a huge success. He also uses the 3D Environment for webinar’s finding them more engaging and effective than “death by Power Point” or other web meeting/training platforms.

Recently Bruce has been investigating the application of Udemy, the ASTD GGC Learning Partner, to effectively deliver and manage leadership training performance support events. Bruce joined the ASTDGG Chapter in July 2010 and after attending the Instructional Design Class joined the COP and volunteered to be the Outreach Manager. He now is a co-chair of the 3D SIG. He’s has been the VP of Membership for ASTDGG for the past 3 years.

Carla Kincaid-Yoshikawa is the founder and Managing Director of Training in the 21st CenturyTM. She specializes in blended learning programs and enjoys working collaboratively with her clients to create and update curricula tailored to fit their specific needs and goals. Her work includes instructional design, development and presentation using a wide range of formats, including face- to-face (ILT) processes; e-learning software (Articulate Studio and Storyline) and Adobe (Captivate). She is passionate about the application of 3D environments for training, meeting and collaboration.

Carla has worked in Human Resources and as an Organization Development and Training Consultant for over 15 years, conducting team building, leadership development, strategic planning, change management and train-the-trainer processes with Fortune 500 companies, as well as small- to mid-sized businesses, and with organizations in the public and non-profit sectors. As a member of the Golden Gate Chapter, Carla has been active in several COP projects, is a member of the Consultant’s SIG, and the founder and co-chair of ASTD-GG’s 3D Learning and Training SIG.
